Callbacks
One 32 bar song cut: Students to prepare one 32 bar song cut and one 1-minute monologue. Auditioners should sing something that reflects the style and tone of the show. Song material may include selections from Sweeney Todd or any other 32 bar song cut that reflects the mood and style of the piece which may include other Sondheim songs.
One-minute monologue cut: Students to prepare either a contemporary dramatic monologue or one from the belle epoque period if they have it (as in Shaw, Chekhov, Ibsen, Strindberg, etc.) with no accents for the general auditions.
** BMMT students ONLY: In addition to your 32-bar cut for your Sweeney audition, BMMT students should also prepare a 32-bar cut of a pop song ranging from the late 1950s to the early 1980s in the styles of Burt Bacharach, The Carpenters, Carol King etc. to audition for the Fall musical revue 'Polyester & Pearls - A 1970s Musical Revue'. Selection may be an MT song as long as it fits the criteria of a song from Sweet Charity or Subways are for Sleeping etc. You can find multiple collections of contemporary songs from these decades on Spotify etc.
If you are called back to be heard for specific roles, you will be notified via email. Please prepare the corresponding side and musical excerpt from the linked folder. Director will want attempted accents for the callbacks if you feel secure doing so. (“If they don't feel comfortable with accents at this point in time, then the attempt at a dialect only gets in the way of their acting the scene truthfully.")
For live auditions, please arrive 15 minutes early to check in with the proctor. Live auditions will be recorded for the audition panel use ONLY.
